In India, fresh Amla fruits are available till March. In my opinion, one should avoid commercial packaged Amalaki juice because of the following reasons :
a) Nature in her divine and magnificent wisdom gives us Amlaki fruits only between November and March.
Let us always respect our bodies with the wisdom of Nature and consume that which is available in season and locally as much as possible.
b) Many commercial packaged juices ie Amalaki have a shelf life of a year ( by Ayurvedic* wisdom, any fresh food is best consumed immediately).
In Nature, this smoothie won't last beyond a few hours before its starts to turn bad.
Also, in order to have a long shelf life, synthetic preservatives and flavors are added such as citric acid and sodium benzoate which is best avoided. The greater the quantity of synthetic preservatives, the longer the shelf life of the juice.
*Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of traditional natural healing in the world. Also known as the sister of Yoga, it stresses deeply on nutrition and lifestyle for optimal health.
Ayurveda believes that there are three bio energies ie Vata ( Air and Ether Elements), Pitta ( Fire and Water ) and Kapha ( Earth and Water) within the body and their balance or imbalance determines the state of good or ill health .
