It takes about three hours for the stomach to empty itself. It's best for people with digestive issues to eat dinner by 6.30 or earlier and even keep a gap of at least three hours before bedtime. Lying down or sleeping soon after dinner may lead the acid in the stomach to leak in the food pipe which could lead to an aggravation of symptoms related to Heartburn, Acid Reflux and GERD. It's best that one considers eating an early dinner for better health.
