The Benefits of Moong Beans | Yoga of Eating



The Green Mung bean also known as moong dal or green gram is the most favored dal in Ayurveda*. It is cooling, sweet in taste, pacifies the Kapha** and pitta** Doshas.


Its property of mildly aggravating Vata** makes it one of the least gas causing legumes. It's helpful for the eyes as well for fever.


It nourishes the tissues, aids physical strength The mung bean (dal) being nutritious and light in nature is also considered a food of choice as well as a herbal medicine when one is unwell . It is also a very favored dal because it does not cause flatulence ( gas) or heaviness.


Note : It's best to soak the whole green mung bean overnight. One could soak for 8 hours . Colder climates may need more soaking . Soaking makes the mung bean easier to cook and even more important, easier to digest.
